New SRC sworn into office for 2015

The new members of the Student Representative Council of VUT were sworn into office on 20 May 2015, following hotly contested elections early this year which were won by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Command (EFF-SC).

Executive Director of Student Support Services, Dr Segopane Seroka congratulated the newly elected SRC, urging them to conduct themselves with honour and integrity, as student leaders who must now provide leadership to the entire student community (close to 21000) rather than the narrow interests of those who voted for them.

Vice Chancellor Prof Irene Moutlana urged the new student leaders to adopt a ‘strategic service’ mentality in servicing the students and also learn to communicate difficult decisions such as the increase in student fees and others.

During the swearing in ceremony, Dr Seroka led the new members of the SRC as they took their oaths of office and were robed with VUT blazers to symbolise their new roles as student leaders. Their term of office will end in September 2015.
