The French South African Schneider Electric Education Centre (F’SASEC) at VUT, in partnership with Schneider Electric, had a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) teachers’ training programme from 29 August to 4 September at F’SASEC VUT.
This training, which is basically on how motors are used to run machines, was headed by one of Schneider Electric’s employee, Ms Mulalo Nengobela, with the intention of giving both students and employees an introduction to motors and variable speed drives.

Ms Mulalo Nengobela acknowledged the F’SASEC as a centre of excellence and noted that the attendees were challenging and interactive. She said that she too learned a few things from her trainees.
Even though the training wasn’t long, the former F’SASEC student and current staff member, Ms Khomotso Monyai said she learned a lot. She also expressed that it is essential for staff to attend so they can further explain to students.
Mr Riaan Greeff, F’SASEC Coordinator showed his full support of the training and said: “Future engineers may also learn something from the training. The training also is of benefit to all trainees as Ms Mulalo Nengobela is a good trainer.”

As F’SASEC VUT is committed to consistency, the VSD teachers’ programme is a follow-up of 2017’s Entrepreneur Skills Teachers’ programme where 24 students received training from overseas. Due to that, the 2017 students had a broad understanding of entrepreneurship and today one of them, Mr Thulani Zambo, owns an Electrical Engineering business!
