VUT AWARDS TOP FIRST YEAR ACHIEVERS

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT), through its Centre for Academic Development (CAD), held the First Years Top Achievers Awards ceremony where a total of forty (40) students, ten per faculty, were awarded certificates of excellence for their outstanding performance in the 2022 Academic Year.

In addition to recognising good performance, the awards also aim to encourage a culture of competitiveness amongst the students.

Addressing the winners, Dr Annie Moletsane who is the Director for Co-Operative Education at VUT, emphasized the importance of respecting and understanding the institution’s values and incorporating them into one’s academic work. “You can only achieve if you read the values of this institution,” she said Dr. A. The visibly excited Sandile Nkosi who was in the top three from the Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences expressed immense gratitude, saying that this was his first award ever.

Another recipient, Dolly Mpanza ascribed her achievement to hard work and dedication and described the feeling as surreal.

Dr. Corneli van der Walt congratulated all the students and emphasized the importance of family support. She said in one of the researches she conducted, she found that students become successful in their academics when they receive family support.

The event was attended by parents of the top achievers and fellow students and management from CAD and the four faculties.
