On Friday, 26 July, the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Vanderbijlpark campus clinic received a best participating institution award from the South African National Blood Service (SANBS). SANBS reached their target and beyond at VUT.
This is the fourth award in a row for the university. The award was won for the number of blood collections held.
VUT believes in such initiatives as blood donations save the lives of many people each year.
Mrs Patricia Mrwetyana, the VUT clinic HCT counsellor, further added: “Students should see the vitality of participating in such programmes as it also teaches them how to live a clean and healthy lifestyle daily.
“I believe that a healthy lifestyle is not just a regular exercise routine or eating habits, but it is a collaboration or synergy of a healthy mind and body; students should also encourage one another to be blood donors and be able to save thousands of lives with just small tokens of blood,” she said.
“Winning four awards in a row really shows that the lives of students are in good hands and should anything happen, help will be on board.”
