VUT community celebrates Information Day

The Department of International Relations and Advancement held an International Information Day on 6 August 2014 at the Vaal University of Technology’s Desmond Tutu Great Hall.

The theme of the day was “Bridging barriers to internationalisation”.

The objective of the International Information Day is to provide the VUT community with relevant information on study opportunities available through exchange programmes as well as details on bursaries; on and off campus facilities and services (e.g. banking, medical aid schemes, social, economic, cultural and recreational) and visiting scholar activities.

“Let school be a place of integration not alienation,” said Professor Irene Moutlana, Vice-Chancellor and Principal at VUT as she welcomed people that were present to attend the event. She emphasised the importance of equality in the institution and alleviating spaces between international and local students.

“There will be a lot of information put at your disposal and I urge you to take the trouble to learn as much as possible about the opportunities that lie within the walls of our institution… This celebration – of International Information Day – is the first step in truly anchoring internationalisation at the core of the university establishment,” she said.

The event was attended by different stakeholders from government departments and agencies, the private sector and international organisations. Presentations were given by different speakers who gave their insights into various topics as per the agenda of the day. The participating organisations also exhibited and provided useful information on the type of services they offer. Prizes and freebies were up for grabs to people who were present at the stalls.

VUT FM broadcast live on the day and the VUT Choir provided entertainment.
